Call for applications for the 2024 SANBI Honours, Masters and Doctoral scholarships are now open!

With great pleasure, South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) announces a call for applications for full-time 2024 Honours, Masters, and Doctoral scholarships. Projects that align with SANBI’s mission and are prioritised in the SANBI Research Strategy will be given consideration. Please get in touch with us before to submitting an application if you are unclear if a project qualifies.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) contributes to South Africa’s sustainable development by facilitating access to biodiversity data, generating information and knowledge, building capacity, providing policy advice, showcasing and conserving biodiversity in its national botanical and zoological gardens. SANBI’s mission is to provide leadership in biodiversity research, policy advice, conservation, and human capital development; and to promote the appreciation, sustainable use, and equitable sharing of the benefits of South Africa’s biodiversity.

Applicants should be proactive, passionate, and driven to conduct outstanding research that has the potential to change the world. Only inhabitants of South Africa are eligible for these scholarships, which will be given out in accordance with national equity goals. The scholarship is contingent upon the student’s placement in a postgraduate degree and their tentative acceptance from potential academic supervisors. Students must apply for university programmes on their own.

SANBI is committed to ensuring that the personal information obtained from third parties is treated confidentially, to protecting the personal information and to use that personal information in a lawful manner.
