The Youth Futures Coordinator position at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a dynamic and pivotal role designed to empower and support the educational journey of youth, particularly English Language Learners (ELLs), in the Clarkston High School community and beyond. The Youth Futures Coordinator, or YFC, is the driving force behind the IRC’s After School and Summer Camp Programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational and enrichment experiences that have a lasting impact on the lives of young individuals.
At its core, this role involves coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the IRC’s After School and Summer Camp Programs, which serve as vital platforms for youth development. The YFC manages all aspects of program execution, including participant recruitment, retention, attendance tracking, and family engagement, ensuring that every young person involved has a meaningful and supportive experience.
In addition to program management, the YFC plays a critical role in fostering a collaborative and holistic approach to education. This involves working closely with school staff, caregivers, and the youth themselves to integrate best practices for teaching, tutoring, and social-emotional learning principles. The YFC is also responsible for supervising a dedicated team, including a Student Support Specialist, Youth Program Assistants, an AmeriCorps member, interns, and volunteers, guiding their professional growth and development.
A key aspect of this role is the ability to track and manage grant goals and outcomes for multiple grants, ensuring that the IRC meets its commitments to its funders while making a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners.
The ideal candidate for the Youth Futures Coordinator role possesses a master’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or equivalent experience. They should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching English Language Learners and be responsive classrooms and/or restorative justice trained. Experience working with refugee and immigrant populations is highly desirable.
This role calls for someone with a deep belief in the potential of all youth to achieve their education and personal goals. It demands strong organizational skills, initiative, creativity, and the ability to manage diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential, as is proficiency in relevant software and digital tools.
