Project BookPecker is a trailblazing grassroots project by PeaceX (a member organisation of UNEP Major Group for Children and Youth) which aims to expand the frontiers of literacy across socio-economic divisions and rethink pedagogy. Project BookPecker works on creating curriculum on both avant-garde subjects conceptualized by the BookPecker team and conventional academic subjects found in curriculum standards and boards worldwide.
In collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Haiti, Project BookPecker would now branch out to enhance the foundation of education in Haiti. The Project would consist of a series of skill-development workshops for middle- and high-school students in Haiti in its initial phase. The subject areas covered include Sustainable Development, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH), Happiness Curriculum (Mental Health & Emotional Intelligence), Career Building and Entrepreneurship, Peace-building Processes and Conflict Resolution, Comprehensive Sexuality Education by UNESCO, and Scientific Temperament Development. PeaceX aims to teach over 800 students in Haiti who have been the victims of violence during the past three years.

They are looking for Project Associates to implement the initial phase of Project BookPecker: Haiti. Project Associates would conduct sessions with multiple cohorts of students, create curriculum content, ideate approaches to topic areas, and enhance and translate existing modules. Project Associates must be fluent in English and French.
The project is currently being conducted remotely due to the restrictions imposed in the wake of Covid-19.
What you will do (Role):
- Create teaching material and high-impact academic modules.
- Design topic area-specific presentations targeting middle- and high-school students.
- Conduct sessions for middle- and high-school students on various subject areas.
- Translate existing academic modules from English to French.
- Research and collate curriculum-specific content and pedagogies.
- Ascertain consistency in content structure, linguistic elements, and design language for the content you create.
- Advocate for educational equity and initiatives aiming for it, including Project BookPecker.

Note: All positions at PeaceX are voluntary and unpaid.
Eligibilities
- Pursuing/completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in any field
- Be above 18 years old at the time of application
- Be available for a part-time, remote opportunity.
- Be available to commit at least 12-15 voluntary hours per week.
- Have self-sufficient access to internet connectivity and the relevant technological infrastructure (laptop, mobile, etc).
