The BRICS Summer School is a program that brings together students and scholars BRICS and Global South. Its purpose is to provide participants with an intensive and multidimensional knowledge of BRICS, encompassing its historical context, foundational principles, current initiatives, and future aspirations. The summer school seek to enhance participants’ understanding of the history, principles, and significance of BRICS cooperation, emphasizing its economic, political, and cultural dimensions.

Furthermore, the summer school seeks to promote academic and cultural exchange among the BRICS countries. The key objectives include fostering cooperation, mutual understanding, and collaboration in various fields, addressing global challenges, promoting cultural awareness, building networks, and nurturing leadership skills. The program aims to strengthen ties between the member nations and enhance their collaboration in education, research, business, and technology, ultimately contributing to the development of a shared BRICS identity on the global stage.

Benefits

  • SABYA will provide shared accommodation and meals during the period of the school for all participants.
  • Participants or sending organizations are responsible for their travel costs to Johannesburg, South Africa and back.
  • SABYA will provide visa application support and assistance with issuing a permission to enter South Africa for international participants who are required to acquire a visa.

Eligibilities

  • Youth aged between 18-35 years old.
  • Learners from grade 9-12
  • Young inspirational leaders from BRICS+ and Global South Countries.
  • Students, researchers, academics, unemployed youth, young professional interested in international relations, Young community leaders, youth activists, entrepreneurs etc.

Participants Criteria 

Educational Background:
Open to undergraduate and postgraduate Students, researchers, academics, unemployed youth, young professional, youth activists, entrepreneurs from diverse academic disciplines.

Demonstrated Interest in BRICS Affairs:
Participants should exhibit a keen interest in the BRICS+ countries, their policies, and their role in the global economy.

Research and Publication Experience:
Priority will be given to applicants with a background in research, and those who have demonstrated their ability to produce academic papers or publications.

Language Proficiency:
Proficiency in English is essential, as it will be the primary language of instruction and communication during the summer school.

Innovation and Creativity:
Participants should possess innovative thinking and creative problem-solving skills to contribute actively to discussions and projects.

Collaborative Spirit:
Ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural teams and actively engage in collaborative projects.

Leadership Potential:
Individuals with leadership qualities, or those who have demonstrated leadership in academic, community, or extracurricular activities, are encouraged to apply.

Motivation and Commitment:
Participants should be highly motivated to actively participate in all aspects of the summer school, including the pre-event preparation and post-event deliverables.

Availability and Commitment to Post-Summer School Activities:
Commitment to engaging in the development of a full paper, policy brief, and a newspaper article post the summer school, requiring an additional 2-3 months commitment after the event.
