Calling submissions for the Young Journalism Award 2024 !
Atlas Network and La Cátedra Vargas Llosa convene the IV Young Journalism Award which is called Carlos Alberto Montaner for excellence, informational rigor, ethical consistency and the defense of freedom in the practice of journalism. The award is named after the journalist and thinker Carlos Alberto Montaner, who was twice president of its jury, in addition to one of the most influential figures in the defense of Spanish-speaking freedom.

The IV Journalism Award will be aimed at recognizing and promoting the new values of journalism. Journalists under the age of 35 of any origin may participate, with the number of works they deem appropriate.
The jury of the IV Journalism Award will be chaired by Gina Montaner, a renowned journalist based in Miami. It will be made up of Bertha Pantoja Arias, Executive Director of Freedom Roads, Lucía Santa Cruz, Member of the Board of Directors of the Adolfo Ibáñez University of Chile and Fernando Carvallo, Peruvian journalist.
The winner agrees to participate in the award ceremony in person or virtually, as well as to intervene in conferences, dialogues and interviews around his award-winning work. Likewise, it authorizes the publication of the winning work in the physical and digital media that are considered for its wide dissemination.

The Organizing Committee of this Contest and its Jury will not maintain any communication with the participants regarding the works in competition.
Persons belonging to the directives of the Atlas Network, the Vargas Llosa Chair or their direct relatives, as well as the members of the jury and their relatives, may not participate in this Contest.
Participation in the contest and final obtaining of the prize implies acceptance of each and every one of the bases of this call, understanding that the breach leaves out of competition the presented work.
Benefits
- The IV Journalism Award is endowed with US $ US $ 10,000, to which the corresponding withholding of taxes will be applied.
- The winner of the USD 10,000 of this fourth prize will be announced at the International America-Europe Forum, organized in November by the International Foundation for Freedom (FIL).
- Likewise, the winner will be invited with all expenses paid to deliver a speech on the subject awarded at the annual meeting of the Latin American Forum of Atlas Network, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in February 2025
Eligibilities
- The IV Journalism Award will be used for works in original Spanish published in the written, radio, television and digital press during the year prior to the closing of the call.
- Translations of original works in another language will not be accepted.
The following categories will be admitted:
- Chronicle: Reports that, using persuasive prose together with the formal resources of literature, relate verbose and detailed facts of reality.
- Opinion – essay: Journalistic pieces that, through an argumentative structure, support the author’s opinion on a subject.
- Journalistic investigation: In-depth reports that expose news events that are hidden from public opinion.
Application Process
- The works must be sent in PDF format (in case of written journalism) or on a YouTube link through the management computer platform that will be accessible on this page.
- Participants must register in it in order to send the item.
Registrations may be made at that address from the Saturday, May 25, 2024 and will close on Friday, October 11, 2024.
