Entries are now open for Scotland’s Photo of the Year 2021! Apply now!
Scotland.Photography is an exciting new photography competition celebrating the beauty of Scotland. Ask any photographer, in any nation, for a shortlist of countries they would like to visit and Scotland will most likely be high up on their list. Mountains, glens, lochs, castles, waterfalls, forests, coastline, history or wildlife. It’s no wonder why Scotland is such a magnet for photographers. They want to see your photos of Scotland, and then showcase the best of them for the world to enjoy. They have deliberately set up Scotland.Photography as a not-for-profit company. They give all profits to local charities, and everyone who enters gets to choose where their money goes. They also won’t use your images for additional revenue generation such as in books, greetings cards or calendars, so you can rest assured that no one will be cashing in from your photos.

The competition is run annually, with the deadline being on the last Sunday of October each year. There is then three week judging period to allow their professional panel to determine the top ten photos for each category. These are then showcased in Scotland.Photography gallery for one week, where the public vote on which ones should be the winners. They will also be showcasing other images which the judges feel are worthy of merit. Join in this celebration of the beauty of Scotland by sending us your photos of this ancient and mystical land. It’s easy to enter, with simple guidelines and regulations.

Eligibilities
Authority doesn’t like to restrict you with a long list of rules and regulations. By keeping things simple and being upfront and honest about where your money goes, they hope everyone will enjoy taking part. Please ensure your photos comply with the following guidelines.
- All images must be taken in Scotland. The subject matter is not restricted, but it must be identifiable as Scotland. Any macro or wildlife photos which could have been taken anywhere will need GPS info in the metadata to prove where they were taken.
- All entries must be your own work. By entering images, you are taking responsibility that you have full ownership of all entries. They also allow photos you have taken whilst on a workshop.
- All images must be a true and accurate representation of the scene or subject at the time the photo was taken. Basic editing is allowed, but cloning of objects (either in or out), merging or two images which were not taken at the same time, or trying to create colours which were never present in the original scene are not allowed. They will need to see the original RAW or unedited file for all top ten images for each category.
- There is no time limit on when a photo was taken. You can enter photos regardless of when they were taken.
- Photos can be of any subject, so don’t assume only landscape images are acceptable. Wildlife, portrait, architectural and cultural images are all welcome, as long as they have a Scottish identity.
- By entering your images, you give permission for Scotland.Photography to use them for promotional and marketing purposes for the competition. Your images will never be used for commercial profit of any kind, and the photographer retains copyright at all times.
- You can enter as many photos as you wish. The pricing options are set out on the Enter page.
- The competition is open to all photographers of any nationality or age.
- Any cash prize needing to be sent outside the UK will incur small international transfer and currency exchange fees which will be deducted from the prize amount.
