IoT Innovation Challenge 2019

Registration for the IoT Innovation Challenge is now open and entries are being accepted. Be one of the first 80 people in each of the competition regions to successfully register and submit a qualified entry (either as an individual or as part of a team) and win a handheld digital multimeter. Individual and team entries are invited from undergraduate and graduate students in eligible countries.

The Keysight IoT Innovation Challenge is a design competition that challenges students to make the world better for billions by innovating low-power IoT (Internet of Things). Students compete via online written and video submissions to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the final competition at the World Maker Faire in New York (Sept. 21-22, 2019). Six teams (2 people per team) will advance to the final, where they will demonstrate their design ideas live on stage before a panel of judges.

  • This contest is limited to specific countries and is only open to entrants aged 18 years or older at the time of submission who are legal residents of, and physically located within, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec), Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea* Republic of, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States (excluding Arizona), and Venezuela.
  • Entrants must be enrolled in an accredited public or private college or university in one of the countries specified above. The online portion of the contest will run concurrently in 3 different regions:
  • Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEAI) Subsidiary Countries and EMEAI non-subsidiary countries
  • The Asia Pacific, Japan and Oceania
  • North America and Latin America
  • Government agencies and institutions (including public universities), and their employees are not eligible to participate or receive prizes (however, public universities may be incidental beneficiaries of prizes won by their students), nor are individuals who appear on the U.S. Government Department of Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals List.
  • Employees of Keysight Technologies, Inc., its affiliates, and subsidiaries, Channel Partners and agents, and immediate family members of each, are not eligible.
  • This contest is void where prohibited by law.

Application Process

  1. Choose a category — either “Smart Land” or “Smart Water.” Please review the descriptions of each category under the Contest Categories menu on the home page.
  2. Write your entry description. In an abstract of up to 850 words, you should describe your design idea, how it works, what makes it a novel, how it would be produced/manufactured, and where it would be applied.
  3. Prepare your illustrations and video. At least one visual illustration is required. You can submit a maximum of three per entry. Your illustration(s) should complement your text description and help visualize your idea for the contest judges. File type options include GIF, JPEG, and PNG.  (File sizes must be kept under 500kb per illustration.) In addition, you must create a video pitch, up to two minutes long, that includes the following components:
    1. What is your design idea?
    2. How does your proposed idea work?
    3. How will your idea make urban living healthier around the globe?
    4. Why do you think your idea should win?

    When completed, upload your video to YouTube and set it to public viewing. The entry form will include a field for you to provide the link to the video.
