The Commonwealth of Nations, often simply referred to as the Commonwealth, is an international association of 56 member states, the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire from which it developed. The chief institutions of the organisation are the Commonwealth Secretariat, which focuses on intergovernmental aspects, and the Commonwealth Foundation, which focuses on non-governmental relations among member states. Numerous organisations are associated with and operate within the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth dates back to the first half of the 20th century with the decolonisation of the British Empire through increased self-governance of its territories. It was originally created as the British Commonwealth of Nations through the Balfour Declaration at the 1926 Imperial Conference, and formalised by the United Kingdom through the Statute of Westminster in 1931. The current Commonwealth of Nations was formally constituted by the London Declaration in 1949, which modernised the community and established the member states as “free and equal”.
The Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda’s Cross-Regional Connectivity Grants Program supports Commonwealth member states in undertaking cross-regional peer-to-peer learning activities aimed at enhancing their knowledge, building their capacity, and growing their expertise to facilitate greater trade and investment.
About the Connectivity Grants Program
With pandemic-related travel restrictions easing after two years, Commonwealth member states can again benefit from in-person engagement to explore and exchange learnings and best practices in various areas of development.
The Connectivity Grants Program supports member states to deliver such activities, while enabling interventions and engagements that work toward achieving Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda (CCA) objectives of greater cross-Commonwealth connectivity, trade, and investment.
Program support to peer-to-peer learning initiatives will be delivered through modest grant agreements of up to £25,000, with a maximum of four initiatives supported per call round.
The program is open to bids from groups of public and private sector entities representing at least two regions of the Commonwealth.
