Nominations For TWAS Awards Are open Now!

The TWAS Awards are presented in a special ceremony held each year at the General Meeting of TWAS. The awards are accompanied by a plaque and a cash prize of USD 10,000. In addition to the financial award, the TWAS Awards also provide the winners with a high level of recognition and prestige.

The TWAS Awards have been instrumental in advancing science and technology in developing countries. They have helped to raise the visibility of scientists from developing countries and have provided them with the resources they need to continue their research. The TWAS Awards are a testament to the importance of science and technology in development and are an inspiration to scientists worldwide.

The TWAS Awards (previously called ‘TWAS Prizes’) are awarded to individual scientists from developing countries in recognition of an outstanding contribution to scientific knowledge in nine fields of sciences and/or to the application of science and technology to sustainable development. To abide by the decision of the TWAS Council taken in November 2018, the cycle of the TWAS Awards will be every two years. Additionally, during the TWAS Council meeting held in Hangzhou, China, on 11 November 2019, the request by UNESCO to change the term ‘prize’ to ‘award’ for all existing and new TWAS distinctions other than medals was approved, and therefore this award scheme is now called ‘TWAS Awards’.
