Do you want to work within the UN system and are from one of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency’s development cooperation countries?
Then this is your chance! Sida now has three vacancies in the Junior Professional Officer Programme: in Bangladesh, Eritrea and Sudan.
Sida currently accepts applications for three JPO vacancies:
- Programme Analyst at UNDP in the area of Rule of Law, human rights and gender. Placement in Khartoum, Sudan.
- Health Officer at UNICEF within the area of Quality of Care. Placement in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
- Programme Analyst at UNFPA within the area of Global Health and Sexual and Reproductive health and rights. Placement in Asmara, Eritrea.
Regardless of the nationality of the applicant or the country of placement all Sida-funded JPO’s will partake in the introductory departure course in Sweden before their employment starts.
Of the 30 countries that are financing a national JPO Programme, Sweden is one of the countries that have the biggest number of employed JPO’s. Sida is recruiting 25-30 JPO:s every year, and more than 100 Swedish JPO’s are currently working in different UN organisations all over the world.

The Junior Professional Officer Programme (JPO) aims to give young professionals an opportunity to work in a UN organisation for two to three years – and thus get a foothold in the UN system and gain valuable experience for a continued career within the field of global development. Currently, some 30 countries finance the programme for their nationals, but only a few sponsor citizens from developing countries.
Sida is now widening the scope for the Swedish JPO programme. Nationals from more than 35 countries can apply to the current vacancies. Those are countries where Sida is engaged in development cooperation.
