Welcoming you all to the House of Enlightenment where English Club of the Laboratorians brings its yearly grandiose, “3rd Laboratorians’ National English Carnival 2019” with all pride and pleasance. Following the great Laboratorian legacy, they have deliberately designed this year’s carnival anticipating a full pack arrangement of premium festival experience for the cultivators of English linguistic wisdom & artistry.

They believe a festival is more of a projection to stimulate one’s zeal for learning than to exhort a compact amusement. Thus, they can assure you that Laboratorians’ earnest endeavors for a competitive and worthy platform won’t let you but enjoy the whole ambiance. Overall, “3rd Laboratorians’ National English Carnival 2019” is filled with lots of fascinating events, workshops and other pompous decors of lingual combats. So, get started with the preparation for the most enchanting show around you coming on March 7-9. Let the carnival be more alive and majestic ensuring your participation.

There will be four categories, according to the possibilities of Festival participation experiences and qualities.

“English Olympiad”: (J,S,I,P)
======================

Participants will have to answer different types of questions from English literature, grammar and a bit general knowledge related to English language. Participants will get 30 minutes to complete the event.

“Effective criticism”:(S,I)
==================

Participants will be shown a short video about a case and then they will be asked to write a criticism of the video. Participants will get 15 minutes to answer.

“Situational Writing”: ( S,I )
====================

On this event, you will be given a situation and three or more unknown characters. Participants will have to write a minimum of thirty conversations between those characters according to the situation. Participants will get 20 minutes to write the conversation.

Anagrams”:(J,S)
=============

Anagrams are nothing but arranging jumble words. So, the participants will be shown some jumble words and they have to write the proper arranged word in their respective answer sheets. Example – “NGARMASA” can be arranged and “ANAGRAMS” can be formed which has a proper meaning.

“Extempore Speech”:(J,S,I)
=====================

In this event, participants have to deliver a speech on a specific topic on instant preparation. The topic will be given on spot. Everyone will get 3 minutes for preparation and 3 minutes to deliver a speech.

“The Observer”:(S,I)
================

Participants will be shown an image depicting a theme, story incident and so on. They have to describe it on stage. Participants will get 3 minutes for brainstorming and 3 minutes to deliver the speech.

“Briefing”:(I,P)
===========

It is a kind of different event. Participants will have to choose one topic among 5 topics to research at home. On spot, they will be given 3 different hints or problems based on their selected topic. The participants have to solve the given problems or hints in their briefing. There will be no preparation time to start off. Participants will be given 3 minutes to deliver their speech.

4. Housing problem of Dhaka city
5. Higher education problems in Bangladesh

“Recitation”: (J)
============

Participants have to memorize one of the selected poems and recite it on spot.

Given poens:

3. Mother To Son – Langston Hughes
4. A Dream Within A Dream – Edgar Allan
5. Snow – David Berman

“The Listener”: (S,I)
===============

An audio will be played and then the participants will be given a question paper which will contain MCQ questions based on the audio. Participants have to complete this event within 20 minutes.

“Intensive Reading”: (J)
==================

This is basically a reading test. Participants will be given an unseen passage and some multiple choice questions related to the passage in the question paper. Participants have to read the whole passage carefully and answer those questions.

“Connecting Incidents” :(S,I)
=====================
Participants have to study a given topic. There will be a passage related to the topic. 5 short questions and 15 MCQ questions based on the passage will be given. 30 minutes is allocated for this event.
N.B: The passage won’t contain the answer of the questions. The passage will only help you to understand the questions.

Intermediate: Brexit Treaty

“Master Speller” (J,S,I)
================

The usual spelling competition followed by two rounds. The First round will be written round and the second one will be stage round. Top 10 participants from the first round will move to the final.

“Story Writing”
==============

Participants have to participate in this event individually.
They’ll be given a situation and they need to use their imagination to make a unique story.

“Mega Quiz” (All)
=============
An event for all the regular quizzes where the questions will be based on literature, TV shows, movies, grammar, music etc. This concludes two rounds. This will be a team based event. Each team may have a maximum number of 5 members. And the registration fee will be 300tk for each team. The team has to pay the fee on the event date registering their team name before the scheduled time of the event.

3. Movies – IMDb top list, Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings series etc.

“Marvel & Dc Quest”: (All)

This event is a different kind of event. The whole event is based on DC and Marvel comics which includes comic books, movies, and TV series. There will be a graphical presentation which contains around 20 questions. Including
1. Character identification
2. Character’s logo identification
3. Character’s dialogue identification
4. Movie and TV series identification
5. Short general question
Hey, “why so serious?” It’s not so tough. Just grab your seat and snatch the place that you deserve. Get ready for the hype!!!

“Anime Quiz.” (All)
==============

The all-time favorite event for Anime lovers. The question will be based on three Anime series that will be given on the description.this will be one round written event.

Given topics:
1. Naruto (Naruto+Naruto Shippuden)
2. My Hero Academia
3. Death Note

“Wall Magazine” (All)
================

An open event for the school and college level students. The theme would be based on literature, world affairs, culture, recent phenomenons, and political views. It must be written in English. Each team that may consist of a maximum three members and minimum two members must submit their team name and wall magazine name along with the name of the magazine on the first day of the event for display.
The max size of the wall magazine would be 6*4 feet.
You have to submit your wall magazine in our reporting time (8:00-10:00 am) on the 7th March.
The last date of registration of wall magazine is 4th March.

“Scrap Book” (All)
==============

Individual event and the theme will be open. The participants must submit their scrapbooks for display on the first day of the carnival.

“Photography Exhibition” (All)
=======================

Rules and regulations :

Mediums:
1.Mobile Photography,
2.Camera/ DSLR

1. All the participants must be the owner of the photos they submit.
2. The minimum size of a photo must be 3000 pixels on the longer size.
3. All the photos must be submitted to: [email protected] within 25 February 2019,12:00 am.
4. A person can send a maximum amount of 5 photos.
5. There are 3 different categories for the photos :
i) Street
ii) conceptual
iii) Open
6. The photos must be renamed in the following order: participant’s name_category_medium_caption_class_institution_contact number. Example: Fahin Rahman_conceptual_mobile_drops of the life_10_government laboratory high school_01703498***
7. Photos can be either colored or black and white.
8. No types of digital manipulation are allowed. If so, the photo will be disqualified. Only light editing like adjusting the exposure/contrast is allowed.
There is no entry fee in this event. But you have to pay 350/- for each selected photos for DSLR and for Mobile photography, you have to pay 250/- for each.
