UNDP is looking for Storyteller- Communications Assistant (NPSA-4) 2023 in Dhaka
Job Responsibilities:
The successful Storyteller will be a strategic and creative writer who can deliver character-driven, emotionally engaging content tailored for different target audiences and UNDP’s goals. She/he will bring fresh eyes to every project and help to shape UNDP’s distinct brand voice. She/he must be an agile writer who can do both long- and short-form pieces for target audiences with varying levels of understanding of UNDP’s work as the leading Development Agency. She/he must be an experienced interviewer, editor, and writer who can take rough and often technical content and translate it into polished, professional stories for mass people. The candidate should have strong judgment and team skills and is a strong collaborator and problem solver who can make decisions quickly on the ground and work effectively with different teams. The successful candidate works well independently.
The Storyteller will be responsible for the following main tasks under the guidance of the Head of Communications:
Storytelling & Copywriting
- Translates a long report into interesting copy and stories that drive a desired action
- Manages content development process (stories & copy) for integrated communications and campaigns and partners with other teams to package it for multiple channels
- Writes both short and long-form pieces for the press, UNDP Bangladesh website, and social media for the purposes of elevating the UNDP Bangladesh profile
- Translates complex issues into compelling and accessible content. Acts as UNDP Bangladesh “in-house reporter” to identify and develop compelling stories about UNDP Bangladesh’s beneficiaries, programs, staff, and the issues relating to our work
Content Gathering
- Identifies opportunities to gather content from the field of different projects
- Paired with others, travels to the field to gather stories that bring UNDP’s brand to life and accomplish communications goals.
- Delivers packaged content and stories.
Editing and Archiving
- Collaborates with Senior Specialist, Communications to optimise and produce stories and content to enhance the UNDP Bangladesh website for the purposes of increasing online subscribers, boosting online engagement, and recruiting new online donors
- Sets up, organises, manages, and maintains UNDP Bangladesh story and image “asset bank” via digital asset management software to ensure all content is properly tagged and archived and that all UNDP Bangladesh staff know where to find key stories and images
- Provides support to the Resident Representative and others in preparing talking points, key messages, and editorial pieces or presentations for major external events
Minor video and image editing
- Editing images (via Photoshop or other image editing software) to post on social media and the UNDP website
Institutional Arrangement
- The incumbent will be report directly to the Head of Communication on the progress of the assignment and will follow Head of Communications overall guidance and supervision.

The Storyteller needs to bring UNDP’s Project works to life through dynamic and compelling human stories and strong copywriting that move an audience to engage more deeply with UNDP’s mission. Nimble, strategic and creative, the Storyteller will gather stories from the field and package them for a variety of strategic purposes. She/he is steeped in our brand strategy and brings a willingness to experiment with fresh approaches and language. The Storyteller must be familiar with digital media and development issues.

Eligibilities
- Secondary Education or completion of High school diploma is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, Social Science, Sciene or any other related subject.
- Minimum four (04) years of Secondary education or one (01) year with Bachelor’s degree of relevant experience in working in professional writing and editorial experience, preferably for any English Daily.
- Diversified portfolio of writing samples is required.
- Demonstrated track record of writing and producing digital and print content for a range of target audiences.
- Track record of using purposeful storytelling to drive organizational impact and results.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills are a must.
- Experience translating technical source material into accessible compelling human stories for a general audience.
- Experience with blog management. Familiarity with web publishing technologies.
- Basic designing skills and proficiency with image editing software (PhotoShop).
- Familiarity with development issues.
- English and Bengali
