BRAC is looking for an Intern under the Urban Development Programme 2020 in Bangladesh.

Unit: EMPOWER (Housing and Slum-upgrading)
Duration: 3 months
Location: BRAC Field Office (Chattogram, and Narayanganj)
Working Hours: 8.30 am – 5.00 pm (Sunday- Thursday)

Intern’s Responsibilities

•  Community consultation and mobilization
• Settlement mapping and resilient settlement improvement planning
• Participatory house design exercise with the communities
• Support in house/infrastructure construction and monitoring activities

Program/Enterprise Description: Urban Development Programme (UDP) is to contribute to achieving BRAC’s goal of empowering 20 million underserved and disenfranchised people in urban and rural Bangladesh to gain greater access and control over resources, decisions, and actions. The UDP set its goal to improve the wellbeing of 1 million urban poor by reducing multi-dimensional poverty and deprivation (by 2020) and has given a particular focus on promoting citizen empowerment through organizing and mobilizing the urban poor and connecting them with basic services and pro-poor planning process.

Project/Unit Description: The low-cost climate-resilient housing and overall slum upgrading initiative under EMPOWER project started in 2018. UDP piloted the initiative in two most climate-vulnerable cities, Khulna and Satkhira, to see the impact of this new intervention. After successful piloting, UDP has started scaling-up the process of housing and overall slum upgrading for the people living in urban poverty.
