“Cennovation” 2019 at IUT in Dhaka

“CENNOVATION” is the biggest technical festival for the Civil and Environmental Engineering students organized in Bangladesh on an international scale. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Islamic University of Technology is going to organize this program for the seventh time in a row on October 04, 2019. This program will create an exultant environment where engineering students can discover the potential hiding inside them. This event will include civil engineering students as well as students from others disciplines across the globe and it will create a platform to share ideas among students of different universities and institutions. “CENNOVATION 2019” will awake social duties and responsibilities among the students and will develop the concept of building a greener world.

● Events – ­Cennovation 2019 will consist of 10 different events:

1. GAME of TRUSSES:
It’s a structural engineering based game. Participants need to build a truss bridge model using popsicle sticks and hot glue. This model truss bridge will be placed in testing module where gradual load will be imposed over it. Most efficient truss bridge model will hold the crown.

2. CennoBiz:
It’s an Inter University Business Case Competition where young minds of the country will fight for the crown through case solving, product branding, marketing and AD making. The competition will consist of 3 segments in total: online, semi-final and final.

3. SEISMIC CHALLENGE:
The participants are required to construct a structure out of provided material within a given time on event day. Super-imposed dead load will be applied on each floor of the structure. The structures will be then tested on a uniaxial shake table. Different levels of earthquake will be generated gradually rising from mild to severe, minimum to maximum level. The structure that lasts longer will be the winner.

4. BUZZER MASTER:
It’s a Civil Engineering knowledge based quiz competition. Participants have to form a group of two persons. The first round will be written exam. Based on this, the selected teams will participate in the Buzzer round, which will take place in the Auditorium.

5. MECHANICS OLYMPIAD:
It’s a competition designed to understand how a person’s sees his/her surrounding structures. In this competition problems related to mechanics of materials, statics and of Newtonian mechanics will be set and there will be time limit to solve this problems.

6. POSTER PRESENTATION:
Posters are often used to share information and are an important part of many conferences, seminars and exhibitions. The main idea of Poster Presentation 2019 should include any of the following sections of civil engineering: Structure, Environment, Water Supply, Waste Management, Transportation, Geo technical & Soil Engineering or Construction management. Each team can contain maximum 2 members.

7. DRAFTING CONTEST:
A participant’s drafting skills will be tested through the drafting contest. In this competition, the participants have to demonstrate their knowledge and skill set about AutoCAD by recreating the challenging 2D drawings that will be provided within the given time.

8. Cennovation Through Your Eyes:
It’s a theme based Photography Competition where participants can submit their photos into two categories (Single & Photo Series). These categories will focus on Civil & Environmental related topics. It’s a great platform for young photographers around the country to show Civil & Environmental innovation through photographer’s view.

9. PERSPECTIVE ILLUSTRATION:
Perspective Illustration refers to an approximate graphic representation, on a flat surface which is an accurate 3D depiction of a plan view laid out on paper. In this event a scenario will be provided containing land profile data and the client’s requirements. According to the scenario the participants have to draw a perspective design of the structure, simplified plan view and a brief description about the illustration.

10. CINE FEST:
It’s a festival to promote and inspire the work of University going film makers. Interested ones are requested to submit their film within this time line. After primary selection 5 short film will be shared through CENNOVATION’s Facebook page. The winning short films will be projected on the event day in IUT auditorium.
