Calling applications for ASEF Workshop for Journalists: Challenges of Dealing with Plastic Waste 2025!

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), in collaboration with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, is organizing the 2025 ASEF Workshop for Journalists on the “Challenges of Dealing with Plastic Waste.” This workshop aims to deepen journalists’ understanding of the complexities surrounding plastic pollution and the various strategies employed to manage it. Scheduled from May 19 to 22, 2025, in Singapore, the workshop will feature interactive panel sessions and site visits, providing participants with firsthand insights into the challenges and solutions related to plastic waste management.

Topics to be covered include the state of the international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, circularity, full life cycle approach to plastics, equity and just transition, innovation in plastic waste management, financing, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity building. Participants will also visit the Senoko Waste-to-Energy Plant in Singapore and a project in Southeast Asia to observe practical implementations of waste management solutions.

The workshop will convene 20 journalists from Asia and Europe who have a proven track record of reporting on environmental issues. Selected participants will engage with experts, NGOs, and other stakeholders, enhancing their ability to effectively report on plastic pollution and raise public awareness about this critical issue. ASEF will cover seminar fees, accommodation, and return airfare for the selected journalists. Interested applicants must be citizens of one of the 51 ASEM partner countries and proficient in English.

The application deadline is January 26, 2025.
