The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna proudly announces the Jerzy Giedroyc Fellowship Program 2024, an initiative designed to stimulate intellectual discourse and foster collaboration among scholars and researchers engaged in the humanities and social sciences. Named after the esteemed Polish intellectual and editor, Jerzy Giedroyc, the fellowship embodies his unwavering commitment to bridging intellectual divides and fostering cross-cultural understanding. The fellowship program welcomes applications from postdoctoral scholars and doctoral candidates working on research projects that resonate with Giedroyc’s legacy and the broader themes of Central and Eastern European studies. Selected fellows will be granted a monthly stipend of EUR 3,000 for postdoctoral scholars and EUR 2,500 for doctoral candidates, along with accommodation, travel, and health insurance coverage. The fellowship period spans four months, from September 2024 to June 2025. During their residency at the IWM, fellows will have the opportunity to:

- Stipend: Postdoctoral candidates will receive a stipend of EUR 3,000 per month, and doctoral candidates will receive a stipend of EUR 2,500 per month. The stipend covers accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance, and any incidental costs related to their stay in Vienna.

Eligibilities
- Senior Visiting Fellowships: Awarded by invitation only.
- Candidates for the Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowship must be enrolled in a doctoral program in the humanities or social sciences or have obtained a Ph.D. in the same fields in the past four years.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the IWM’s online application form. Application materials consist of the following:
- a brief letter of motivation that addresses how the project would benefit from time at the IWM, the connection to the IWM’s mission and research, and concrete research/writing goals during the fellowship
- a project description (max. 550 characters)
- a project proposal (max. 7,500 characters incl. spaces) that a) contains a description of the project’s objectives; b) situates the project within existing scholarship; c) describes the project’s methodology; d) outlines the intended work plan
- a curriculum vitae including a list of publications
- two letters of recommendation from scholars familiar with the applicant’s academic work
All application materials should be in English.
