Since 1951, UNDP has been involved in nearly every aspect of human development in India. They have worked to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, strengthen local governance, increase community resilience, protect the environment, support policy initiatives and institutional reforms, and hasten sustainable development for all in collaboration with the Government of India and development partners. In order to provide results that are centered on people, especially for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, UNDP collaborates with national and subnational governments, a variety of development actors, and projects and programs in every state and union territory in India. They are dedicated to supporting the Government of India’s national development strategy and goals and speeding the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our capacity as the integrator for collective action on the SDGs within the UN system.

UNDP India’s new Country Programme (2023-2027) builds on their prior work and aims to provide an integrated approach to development solutions in three strategic portfolios:

  • Robust, accountable, and evidence-led institutions for accelerated achievement of the SDGs.
  • Enhanced economic opportunities and social protection to reduce inequality, with a focus on the marginalized.
  • Climate-smart solutions, sustainable ecosystems, and resilient development for reduced vulnerability.
  • South-South cooperation, gender equality, and social inclusion are promoted across the pillars.

A framework of reaffirmed alliances, blended financial solutions, accelerator labs for strategic innovation, and data and digital architecture all support the plan. You are encouraged to join a group of development experts working to help India achieve the objectives set forth at the national and international levels. Your main goal as a member of the UNDP team will be to collaborate with many stakeholders to identify country-specific solutions that promote sustainable development and start with the most disadvantaged people.
