This Royal Academy of Engineering scholarship is open to eligible students studying our MSc Automotive Engineering with Electric Propulsion.
The Royal Academy of Engineering’s MSc Motorsport Scholarship Programme supports individuals from Black or mixed Black ethnic backgrounds who wish to study a master’s degree in motorsport (or a related eligible course).
The programme is in response to a recommendation made in the Hamilton Commission’s first report, Accelerating Change: Improving Representation of Black People in the UK Motorsport. The Commission was formed by Lewis Hamilton HonFREng and the RAEng to address underrepresentation of Black People in UK motorsport and STEM sectors.
The joy of car!: Did you know that the first recorded car journey was a joyride with Bertha Benz behind the wheel, which lead to the advancement in road safety through improved braking system design? Motorsport often provides an inspirational force for good, linking cars as a means of adventure, with transport as a means of utility.
Competition cultivates competence!:At Bath our main automotive research interests are focussed on sustainable low carbon transport solutions. But the world of Motorsport is renowned for novel approaches to engineering too, and part of the journey to finding new technology solutions for future low carbon road cars.
Racing to green!: Current trends in Motorsport feature low carbon technologies (Formula E, Extreme E, F1 net-zero targets and increased use of e-fuels); this scholarship is an opportunity to help accelerate change in both racing and road car environments.
Build on Bath brilliance!: Bath has a track record of student success with Motorsport engineering (TBR, TBRe, Bath Zero, Green Bath Racing); this scholarship is an opportunity to build on that legacy.
Feed your fascination for physics!: This scholarship is open to students from a wide range of science-based subjects; Motorsport success thrives on innovative use of fundamental physics (Frank Costin, Peter Wright and Adrian Newey started in aeronautics).
